Windermere Lake Cruises - The MV Teal

Just before Easter, we were called to assist with the fit-out of The MV Teal, a 1936 built 533 seater "steamer" sailing on Windermere. The project needed to completed to a tight timescale to allow the vessel to be ready for her Summer 2009 sailing commitments.

Designs were quickly developed working closely with designers at 'The Knack' and Windermere Cruise management and boat builders.

Construction details were tweaked and final aesthetic issues were confirmed. We enjoyed this very interesting fit out. We say 'interesting' as there were a number of immediate issues to be dealt with:

• in common with most ships, the MV Teal is not square with curved ceilings, curved flooring and doorsets that are not exactly plumb
• the MV Teal was positioned in the water without full cargo so lay listing in various positions
• weather i.e. high winds constantly altered the position of the MV Teal. This changed the 'plumbness' whilst working, as we were to create correct lines / angles and aesthetic finishes
• we had to learn a completely new language where ceilings are called deckheads, walls are called bulkheads and the floor is a deck!
